Southall retailers benefitting from council funding

Independent retailers in one area of west London are already feeling the benefits of a regeneration programme involving new footpaths and shop fronts.

Ealing Council has initiated the £1 million improvement scheme in Southall town centre, with its aim being to attract more shoppers, the Ealing Gazette reports.

Six businesses have already received new shop fronts, while another 19 are set to benefit before the scheme draws to a close in March next year.

Ammit Rudki, who owns Southall Broadway's Century Emporium, told the newspaper that much of the town centre already looks better.

"The new shop front gives our business a classy West End look and we've had a lot of positive feedback from customers who have stopped and mentioned how great our shop looks," he commented.

Under the terms of the initiative, retailers can apply for council funding if they wish to receive a new shop front, with the organisation prepared to cover 90 per cent of the installation cost.

Elsewhere, a letter to the Tewkesbury ADMAG congratulates the town's High Street Enhancement Scheme, part of which has improved local shop fronts.
