Book Wholesaler announces Norwich move

One of the UK's leading wholesale books companies is relocating from its headquarters in Leeds to a new, larger premises in Norwich.

Bertrams, which in the wake of the Woolworths collapse last year was acquired by Smith News, is moving from its existing 3,700 sq m building to a 17,000 sq m site in East Anglia, PrintWeek reports.

Michael Neil, Bertrams' managing director, said that while between 120 and 130 positions would be lost in West Yorkshire, roughly the same number of new jobs will be offered to new employees in Norwich.

"We would love it if everyone could move over, but only a handful of employees are able to move," he told the news provider.

"We move books from Norwich to Leeds and then ship them from there. It will be far more efficient this way."

Mr Neil went on to say that the move is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Bertrams was founded in 1968 and supplies books and related products to both small and large retailers in the UK and abroad.
