Family furniture retailer sees sales soar

A family-run furniture business has seen sales soar year-on-year by more than 50 per cent, it has been revealed.

CSL, a retailer which comprises of a selection of stores in the north of England, saw sales rise by 51 per cent in 2009 compared to figures from the previous year, according to Crane's Manchester Business.

Christmas was a particularly strong period, with sales for the four weeks to January 3rd increasing on a like-for-like basis by 61 per cent.

Jason Tyldesley, CSL's managing director, said that the company's success could be attributed to its maintenance of quality products; something other retailers has let slip in a bid to lower production costs.

He told the news provider: "Whilst many of our competitors are stuck in the cycle of slashing quality to reach the lowest possible price point, we're building our business on the back of good value products that are built to last."

According to the British Retail Consortium-Nielsen UK Shop Price Index for January 2010, non-food inflation accelerated to 1.9 per cent from 1.4 per cent in December.
