Retailers receive government grants to bolster security
A number of the UK's small retailers have received government funding to help bolster their security systems.
Approximately 1,000 stores are set to benefit from the funding, which has come from the £5 million Small Retailers Grants Fund.
The government hopes that the financial assistance will allow Britain's smaller and more vulnerable retailers to better protect themselves against crime.
Home Office minister Alan Campbell said: "This fund was set up to provide real help to the small businesses that need it the most and I am delighted that more than 1,000 retailers will benefit from the increased security these grants will provide."
The security-boosting programme comes as part of the Retail Crime Action Plan, which was implemented in the latter half of last year.
As well as providing help to individual shops, a number of collectives will also receive assistance. A total of 72 cooperatives will be allocated money to help reduce crime levels in their respective areas.
