Barclaycard scheme offers small retailers 'support'
Barclaycard is to launch a new cash-back scheme that is set to benefit customers as well as rejuvenate high street spending.
The initiative, which has been trialled in Northampton and will be rolled out nationwide in March, is said to be the country's "broadest ever" retail reward scheme.
Barclaycard holders will earn "reward money" when spending at any one of the 30,000 participating stores - one per cent of every transaction.
No vouchers or exchange terms are required, with the money simply added to a person's account for saving or spending.
Sarah Newman, of Barclaycard, said the scheme offered the UK's smaller stores an opportunity to increase trade.
She said: "By offering the chance for small and medium retailers to join a scheme with major UK brands, Barclaycard Freedom is supporting the high street at a time of very difficult trading conditions."
There are currently eight million Barclaycard holders in Britain.
