Retailer fined for misleading sales promo

A small retailer in Scotland has been fined for implementing a misleading sales promotion, it has been revealed.

That is according to Aberdeen City Council, which has revealed that officers from its Trading Standards Service have ordered Homestyle Operations Ltd to pay £3,000 for engaging in false sales offers.

Investigations undertaken last year revealed the trader was offering products at a 50 per cent discount when in fact the price has actually risen by more than £100.

Carole Jackson, Trading Standards & Commercial Premises manager, said the company's sales operations were "highly misleading" and a "clear breach" of established rules and regulations.

She added: "To falsely claim that sale prices will only be available for a limited time and to then compound that by advertising [products] at half price when they have actually increased their prices is unfair."

Ms Jackson went on to say that officers from the department would continue to investigate misleading sales practices within the area.
