Small retailers' dated shop fronts deemed untidy
A collection of small village retailers have been criticised for not maintaining the appearance of their shop fronts.
Shops in Stretton, Burton have been labelled "untidy" by locals who believe little effort has been made on upkeep over the last year or two, despite the recession–related financial difficulties faced by the retailers, according to the Burton Mail.
Brian Buxton, a member of Stretton Parish Council, said the issue needed to be resolved and that it shouldn’t prove too costly – a standpoint that could anger cash-strapped retailers.
He told the news provider: "The shop fascias are getting very tacky and they really need replacing, or at best the names repainting and generally tidying up. It’s not a massive investment, it just needs general maintenance."
The council has said it is unwilling to assist the shopkeepers in the commercial properties' rejuvenation, insisting that the stores improve their appearances with funds from their own budgets.
