Warrington retailers receive holiday protection

Retailers in Warrington received a boost this festive period with both traders and shoppers receiving extra police attention.

That is according to the Warrington Guardian, which reveals that the town centre benefited from Operation Red Mountain 2 through the holiday season.

The police programme was set up in a bid to crack down on retail crime in the area during what is a notoriously troublesome period for shop owners.

High-visibility patrols as well as plain clothes police were deployed in the town's shopping area.

Sergeant Neil Drum, the operation co-ordinator, said the decision to implement the programme was made as a result of past successes.

He told the news provider: "We are committed to reducing retail crime within Warrington town centre.

"This operation follows on from the successful Operation Red Mountain 1, which took place over the summer."

Community Support Officers were also deployed around the town shops in an attempt to "disrupt" potential retail-based criminal activity.
