Women prepared to walk the earth for retail

The average British woman will walk almost 11,000 miles during her lifetime while shopping, new research has revealed.

Research by Debenhams has shown that women will walk around 10,820 miles in a search for bargains - the equivalent of a journey from London to Sydney, the Daily Mail reports.

The study will come as welcome news to retailers and wholesalers, with the figures underlining the importance of customer loyalty and accurate stock purchase.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesman for the store told the publication: "It's no secret that women like to shop but it's staggering how many miles they will cover in a lifetime.

"As shopping is such an enjoyable experience, I think women will be surprised how far they do travel.

"And as we are supposed to take 10,000 steps a day, shopping can prove a great way to achieve this."

He added: "It is amazing to see actually how much of a toll a shopping trip can take on a woman, no wonder we are often so tired after a day on the High Street."

The study also showed that men will cover an average of 8,151 miles on shopping trips during their lifetime.
