Wholesaler praises Exeter's transport links

One UK wholesaler has revealed that it is looking to move into the retail sector and added that the south-western city of Exeter is a perfect location for suppliers.

According to the thisisexeter.co.uk portal, wholesaler the Sportsman Gun Centre recently purchased South Wales-based retailer D J Litts in a bid to expand its reach.

Sportsman owners Gary Lamburn and Aboo Cattran explained that they were looking at ways that they would expand their operations away from their current wholesale focus.

Mr Lamburn said that the move would "allow us to expand into the US and European markets".

During the interview, Mr Lamburn also explained why he believed Exeter was a good base for UK wholesalers.

"We're close to the motorway, the link roads and other access routes," the wholesaler commented.

This helped the company drastically increase their revenue.

Recently, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) warned that larger retailers were increasingly taking advantage of independent wholesalers by delaying payments and demanding discounts.

At the time, FSB chairman John Wright said: "At a time when small businesses are finding it difficult to deal with a slowing economy and rising costs, it is shocking that large companies think it is acceptable to use them as an unofficial source of credit."
