Welsh officials look to educate the public about fake goods
Trading standards officers in Wales have launched a campaign to educate the public about buying fake and stolen goods.
The local Port Talbot Guardian reported that trading standards recently hosted an anti-counterfeiting day at Aberavon Shopping Centre to increase awareness about the problems of dodgy goods.
Officers gave members of the public information about how to spot fake and stolen goods and urged them not to turn a blind eye on those sell their products.
Principal trading standards officer for Neath Port Talbot Council, Steve Adie, explained to the paper: "Always be suspicious of bargains - if something seems too good to be true it probably is.
"Examine the quality of the goods before you buy and check labels and packaging for misspellings and poor logos.
"Take extra care when buying from street markets, car boot sales and pubs."
Local politician Peter Rees said that the fake goods posed serious problems for legitimate retailers.
He explained: "This is a serious national and local problem. Local jobs are under threat if people continue to buy fake goods."
