Trader convicted for selling fake goods from trusted wholesaler

A market trader from South Devon has been given a 56-day suspended jail sentence for selling more than 800 counterfeit toys in Dawlish Warren.

Bhagat Singh Dubb, from Handsworth in Birmingham, was caught by trading standards officers selling Spider-Man and Disney-branded last June, according to the South Devon Herald Express.

The newspaper reported that he was told by the magistrates that the toys were a serious health risk to the public.

Chairman John O'Connell said: "The victims in this case were unsuspecting members of the public. They were at risk and harmed financially and the companies' rights have been violated."

However, the Herald Express reported that Mr Singh Dubb's circumstances were mitigated somewhat by the fact that he had purchased the products from a trusted wholesaler in good faith, his barrister said.

Last month, nearly £20,000 of knock-off children's merchandise, including Power Rangers, Batman and Star Wars toys, was seized during a raid of a toy shop in Blackpool.
