Toy wholesaler fined for selling unsafe products

A toys and games wholesaler from London has been fined and ordered to pay £5,000 after pleading guilty of selling dangerous toys and electrical goods.

Aladdin's Cave Wholesalers, which is situated in Edmonton, was prosecuted following a routine inspection, the Enfield Independent reports.

Owner Mohammed Sakir Miah admitted to selling teddies, Yu-Gi-Oh toys and a sky travel charger all of which were deemed by unsafe by trading standards authorities.

Local councillor Terry Neville was quoted by the newspaper as saying: "Enfield Council will act swiftly and strongly and vigorously to prosecute any traders selling unsafe toys to protect our children."

Mr Miah picked up a £1,000 fine for each of the three charges in addition to costs of more than £5,000.

In other news, a struggling supplier of wholesale office furniture has been bought out of administration.

Situated in the north-west, the Desk Centre was taken over by Vision Support Services, a global textiles distributor.
