Three convicted of selling fake goods on eBay
A couple from the south of England have been found guilty of selling fake goods over the internet.
The Bournemouth Daily Echo reported that Lorraine Parsons denied two charges of selling counterfeit items between January 2005 and February 2006, but was found guilty by the jury in the case.
Her partner in crime, Marc Hogarth, was also convicted on five counts of selling fake goods.
According to the paper, Ms Parsons' husband, Andrew, had already pleaded guilty to several other counts of selling counterfeit goods.
The case was brought by Bournemouth council's trading standards department. It had uncovered the business during an investigation by the police and brand protection managers in the UK.
Trading under the name Marc Andrew Enterprises, the three people sold fake Christian Dior, Lacoste, Timberland and Rockport clothing and shoes on the online auction site eBay.
In their defence, the people said they did not know the goods they were selling were fakes.
However, the paper reported that trading standards officer Andy Sheriff dismissed this claim.
He said: "They had eBay feedback from customers saying these goods were shoddy and fake, but they took no action, even when matters were brought to their attention.
"They were moving to a much bigger scale of things, where they were selling to other traders and were involved in the import of items from China involving substantial sums of cash."
