Small firms urged to continue to network
Small firms should not ignore the value of networking during the credit crunch, a local business organisation has said.
The Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce (CCC) said businesses needed to continue to network as the economy slowed as it provided a valuable method for generating new sales and suppliers.
The call came after the CCC was forced to cancel a networking breakfast due to lack of interest.
John Bridge, chief executive of the CCC, commented: "The current economic climate is already causing considerable difficulties for businesses across the county and the rising cost of energy, fuel and raw materials, the strong Euro and low consumer spending are all contributing factors.
"But it is essential that businesses do not make the mistake of cutting back on networking in favour of spending more time in the office.
"It is very easy to look at the raw figures and decide that the pounds spent on attending networking events would be better left in the bank, but businesses simply must invest in raising their business profile if they are to overcome the struggles which lie ahead."
As well as generating new sales leads, Mr Bridge stressed that networking could increase the profile of a business and help them identify new suppliers.
