Shetland wholesaler expands into Orkney
A wholesale supplier from Scotland's Shetland Islands has successfully expanded its businesses following the buyout of a rival company.
JW Gray & Co, which specialises in the supply of items including ceramics, cleaning materials and pet products, took over Kirkwall-based Orkney Wholesalers, according to the Shetland Times.
Following the move, the new business will also include a wool brokerage and will serve larger retailers such as Argos.
Speaking to the newspaper, company director Iain Johnston said: "We've had a good working relationship with a good customer base in Orkney for a lot of years and the takeover seemed common sense."
He also expressed hope that the takeover will allow JW Gray & Co to diversify its stock "as the market dictates".
Last month, newspaper and magazine wholesaler Smiths News reported that its new subsidiary book supplier, Bertrams, is trading ahead of forecasts.
