The Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) group is running an online virtual conference to show pupils and small business owners that new IT technology can be successfully deployed to reach a global market. Anne Ross, a senior development manager at HIE explained the event was designed to "raise awareness amongst young people about the possibilities of setting up their own businesses in the area". She added: "The Highlands and islands economy is being driven forward to a large extent by small companies and this conference will be of interest to existing businesses as well as those who are thinking of starting a business." Scotland's Institute of Directors (IOD) is also involved in the event.
