Scottish Asda store criticised by local resident
Plans to build a new branch of Asda in Larkhall, Scotland have been met with some very strong opposition.
Local councillors have been criticised for having a "lack of thought and vision" by allowing the superstore to be built in the area.
In a letter to a local newspaper, a resident named as J Craig warned that a new supermarket would have a very detrimental effect on the town because it would be such a blow to small traders.
J Craig's letter to the Hamilton Advertiser stated: "Without a doubt it will have a devastating effect not only on the town but will mean the end of the small local traders on the main street."
The local resident also pointed out that there is already an Asda superstore less than in Hamilton, four miles from Larkhall, as well as others nearby in Blantyre, Motherwell and Newmains.
"Why do our council officials show more loyalty to this corporate monster than to the community they are supposed to serve," J Craig added.
