Retailers urged to turn to eBay for 'difficult-to-sell' stock
Retailers have been urged to put their "difficult-to-sell" items on eBay as it comes to offer more goods at fixed prices instead of through its auction service.
Speaking at the World Retail Congress this week in Spain, eBay chief executive John Donahoe explained to traders that it seeks to provide merchants with a platform through which to sell goods online, the Retail Bulletin reports.
According to the website, he said that the lines between online and offline retail are blurring as consumers pressure vendors to "break down the barriers".
"eBay is a great channel for selling end-of-season, old items, nearly-new items and refurbished goods," Mr Donahoe was quoted as saying.
"And because it is a marketplace retailers can put loads of products for sale one day and then none the next."
Last month, figures from the IMRG/Capgemini e-retail index suggested that there was an increase of nine per cent in online sales during March compared to February.
The month also saw a 19 per cent lift compared to the same period a year earlier, the report revealed.
