Report calls for better government support of small businesses
Serial entrepreneur Doug Richard has produced a report calling on the government to provide better support for small businesses in the UK.
The Dragons' Den judge was commissioned by the Conservative party to publish a report for its Small Business Task Force on how services for start-ups and local firms could be improved.
Mr Richards found that the current system that supported small businesses was "confusing and out of control", with over 3,000 different schemes run by 2,000 public bodies and their contractors.
To improve the situation and better support small companies, Mr Richards said the government should create a single, national, web-based Business Information System about available funding.
He also said SMEs should have access to more finance and that there should be more help to allow small businesses secure government contracts.
The businessman explained: "These recommendations would enable the UK to once again become one of the best places in the world to do business."
Recently, Conservative leader David Cameron said that a Tory government would do more to encourage people to support local suppliers.
