Politicians urged to always consider the smallest businesses
The government and opposition have been urged to always consider the needs of small businesses when planning new legislation.
As part of its Think Smallest First campaign, the Forum of Private Business (FPB) has written to senior MPs asking them to pledge their support for the UK's smallest firms.
Specifically, the FPB wants politicians to always consider the impact of new legislation on the country's smallest companies.
According to the FPB, a focus on the needs of the smallest businesses would improve the economic efficiency of the country.
FPB chief executive Phil Orford said that most little businesses were already struggling to cope with the increasing burden of red tape and the "UK's disproportionate tax system".
He explained: "The key issue is that businesses at the lower end of the size scale most often lack the resources to overcome these barriers.
"Considering the smallest, most vulnerable firms has to be the number one priority of all politicians when it comes to legislating on enterprise."
A recent report warned that many small businesses were concerned that a genuine recession was approaching and that the government might increase commercial taxes to meet funding shortfalls.
