Online fashion retailers drive women to the internet

Women are increasingly turning to the online stores for their dose of retail therapy, a new study has revealed.

According to recent research, Irish women are leading the way amongst online female consumers, with almost half shopping over the internet, helping to drive the sales of online clothes by 40 per cent over the last two years, the Irish Independent reports.

Elizabeth Greehy, editor of popular website stylebible, reveals that the fashion industry growth was inevitable following the successful internet sales enjoyed in other sectors.

"The fashion world is simply following in the footsteps of every other major commodity in this country by rapidly selling online," she told the publication.

"'In the same way, women are replenishing their wardrobes without moving from the PC. You can find pretty much anything you're looking for online these days, whether it's designer hair pieces or magic knickers.

"For women who don't have the time or energy to hit the high street, online shopping is convenient and easy. It also gives them access to niche market products such as plus-size clothes or larger shoes," Ms Greehy added.

The growth in the sale of fashion items could provide a valuable for clothes and textile wholesalers who could take advantage of the increase in sales by selling more stock.
