Independent retailers help Wrexham become 'top shopping town'
A mix of independent retailers and multi-national shops is to help Wrexham become one of the best places in the UK to go shopping.
That is according to councillor Rodney Skelland, who has asserted that while the town is due to get a new shopping complex, the presence of various independent retailers will still make Wrexham an interesting and varied place to shop.
Mr Skelland, lead member for regeneration and corporate governance, told local newspaper the Wrexham Leader that while people in the area can expect changes, they should be for the better.
He said: "The council is not complacent about the possible negative impact that the moves will have on Hope Street but it is keen to get across the message that those shops moving to Eagles Meadow are not leaving the town centre but are relocating within the town centre."
Mr Skelland made his comments in response to concerns from local residents that the planned development will break up the traditional town centre.
The council has said that stores moving to the new Eagles Meadow site will be larger than before and that any outlet left vacant will not be empty for long.
