Government urged to involve small firms in tax forum
The government has been urged to find a role for small businesses in its new 'tax forum'.
The Treasury's recent proposal to develop a new tax group, featuring ten representatives from multinational firms, has been met with disapproval by the Federation of Private Businesses (FPB).
Matt Goodman, policy representative for the FPB, argued that small businesses should play a wider role in the form, or have their own group.
"Doing a better job of consultation, and discussions with the taxpayer, would help them understand the reasoning and process behind tax changes," he said.
"By that logic, the Treasury should consider putting together a similar group focused on the process of small business taation," Mr Goodman added.
However, it is not just tax issues that are affecting the plight of wholesalers, retailers and other small companies. The Federation of Small Businesses has urged regional councils to do more to help local retailers thrive in the face of competition for large companies.
