Google advises independent e-retailers
Internet giant Google has urged independent e-retailers to make their websites easily accessible in order to boost their popularity among shoppers.

With consumers attracted to the internet due to its easy and quick access, Google claimed that providing the customer with a swift shopping experience was key to driving traffic, Retail Bulletin reports.

Speaking at the First Tuesday 'Retail Revolution' meet, Robert Swerling, head of commerce in Europe, Middle East and Africa at Google, said: "When people are asked why they did not buy any goods after visiting a site, far and away the most popular response is because they did not have the time or because of having to register."

Mr Swerling also claimed that independent retailers had the advantage of knowing a lot about its consumers and should adapt in response to trends.

He added: "There is no excuse for online retailers not understanding all about what their customers do as it's all there on a plate. Never before have retailers had so much deep information for so little cost."

Meanwhile, online retailers had a strong Easter period with visitors to sites increasing by 2.2 per cent when compared with the figures for 2007.
