Entrepreneur sells record-breaking Xmas tree business
An entrepreneur from Shropshire who became Britain's largest independent retailer of Christmas trees has sold his business for an undisclosed sum.
The Shropshire Star reports that Tom Whittle started his company xmastreesales.co.uk five years ago when he was just 19, after apparently spotting a gap in the market.
By delivering fresh-cut trees up to 50 feet in size to consumers around the UK, Mr Whittle was able to grow his company year-after-year and has now cashed in on the venture.
Commenting on his experience of going head-to-head against with mainstream Christmas wholesalers, Mr Whittle said his success stemmed from providing a unique service.
"In 2004 I saw that demand for fresh-cut Christmas trees was increasing but that the delivery factor and accessibility factor were problematic areas for most customers," he explained. "I knew there must be a market for an online offer."
Having sold his website the young entrepreneur will now focus on specialising in trees that are ten feet and above, hoping to corner corporate and business sales in the sector.
