eBay sets maximum P&P in several categories
eBay has revised its policies for postage & packaging charges, restricting sellers to a maximum fee for several different kinds of items.
As of January 27th, all retailers that use the online auction house will have to specify at least one UK shipping rate - a requirement which had previously only applied to newly registered merchants.
Furthermore, sellers in certain media and telephone categories will be limited to a maximum P&P charge, ranging from £1 for a SIM to £14 for a video games console.
All DVD listings must offer free shipping, while the other affected categories are Books, Comics and Magazines, Film & TV, Music, Video Games and Mobile and Home Phones.
"Excessive P&P costs are cited as a major reason for buyers spending less online," the auction house said in a statement. "Offering a competitive P&P cost can drive higher sales conversions on eBay."
The new regulations only apply to the first domestic shipping rate, with sellers retaining the right to charge more for expedited or overseas deliveries.
