East London wholesaler goes into receivership
An east London wholesaler has gone out of business after operating for close to 50 years.
A statement on the website of Walthamstow-based CD and DVD wholesaler S Gold and Sons confirmed that its bosses had appointed joint administrators on July 30th.
The local Epping Forest Guardian reported that staff at the wholesaler were told earlier in the week they would all be made redundant at 15:00 today (August 1st).
One unnamed employee told the paper that staff had suspected the wholesaler was struggling, as orders had dropped off considerable in recent months.
She added: "People just don’t know what to do. When they told us, there was one woman who just went hysterical.
"I'm disgusted with them. I really think they should have kept us in the loop. Some people have been there 20 or 30 years, there are one-parent families, there are people who are being treated by the private health insurance we got with the job.
"We were told they did they did their best to sell the business but they just weren't able to do it."
Recently, research from Gfk suggested that independent electrical retailers were struggling in the current economic situation.
