Counterfeit crackdown at car boot sale
Police have arrested seven people at a car boot sale in Nottingham for the suspected sale of fake goods, according to the BBC.
The arrests, which are likely to be welcomed by British wholesalers, were the result of a joint operation by police and trading standards teams.
The products in question are said to be DVDs, CDs and computer games.
The arrests were made following test purchases of the goods. Having checked the quality of the products and established them to be sub-standard, officers swooped in for the arrest.
Natalie Hodgkinson, a trading standards officer, warned shoppers against believing such items were a bargain.
She told the BBC: "It is a very serious problem, counterfeiting. It has proven links with organised crime, people trafficking [and] drug smuggling."
"It also affects local trade and businesses by taking people away from their legitimate shops."
In December last year, a couple from the north-west were jailed for selling counterfeit designer clothing.
The husband received one year and the wife eight months.
