Chamber launches new eco-shopping bag
Rye's Chamber of Commerce has launched a new environmental shopping bag which is likely to reduce the use of plastic carriers in the region.
The re-usable bag was unveiled at its official launch yesterday and will stand alongside a number of other green initiatives in the area, the Rye and Battle Observer reports.
Pat Field, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, revealed that the move was part of a new attitude among regional business to become more environmentally aware.
"We are delighted to find that local businesses are waking up to environmental concerns," he said.
"Our local supermarket will be soon be phasing out plastic bags and several shops are now wrapping their goods in biodegradable and compostable bags," Mr Field added.
The bag, featuring an impression Rye's sky line, is made from jute and is designed by local artist Steve Duffy.
