Bosses 'don't feel they can take holidays'
New research has shown that the owners of small businesses in the UK are too concerned about the state of the economy to consider taking time off this summer.
Figures from Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank showed that ten per cent of entrepreneurs have given up all their holiday this year in a bid to keep their businesses going.
A further 32 per cent said they take fewer holidays now than they did three years ago.
Even those bosses who do manage to get away find they worry about their shops while abroad. The research found that 72 per cent of owners touch with staff when away and 64 per cent revealed they spend their break worrying about how their business is faring.
"It is understandable that business owners feel the need to be around 100 per cent of the time to keep their business on track, not only to ensure the success of their business but also to cut back on costs," commented Steve Jennings, the director of business banking at Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank.
"However, it is important to have a break and by not taking time out, business owners run the risk of being less efficient - which could cause more harm than good in the long-run."
